General Project for Curriculum Development E-mail this page Printable version

The secret of development and progress of a society is mainly based on how that society invests in their people, which is the most valuable and most profitable resource due to the fact that the new generation will be the ones controlling the nation's potential and its future.

The educational curriculum is a powerful source for a nation since it is the curriculum which can trigger a person's soul, mind and body; making each work with maximum effectiveness.

Based on this, the Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia has established "The General Project for Curriculum Development". Our educational policy is primarily derived from the Islamic religion, its creed and from the glorious history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This project aims to make major improvements in education by:

  • Making fundamental and typical changes in the curricula for it to be more suitable for quick growth and development, locally and internationally.
  • Providing effective methods to accomplish educational policy with integration. This is to done by effectively interacting with new educational technologies, benefiting from experiences of others, specifying required skills to be learnt by students at every educational level, linking information with general life, developing critical thinking methods, and developing required skills and essentials for productive work.

This major project lasted for three years which included training courses, attracting scientific professionals, facilitating financial capabilities, specialized workshops, mutual visits between committees in the Gulf region and other countries internationally, field studies and researches, reviews of other countries' experiences, rating the current curricula, coordination with all concerned sectors in Saudi Arabia such as private sectors, governmental sectors and other educational institutes.

The Ministry produced the curriculum documentation which comprised of 12 documents in 1422H (2002) which was prepared by experienced staff from Saudi Arabia and other Arab and international universities, professional committees and selected teachers and educational supervisors.

The Ministry is making changes and improvements in the curricula every year based on the prevailing situation and requirements.

The Ministry has also approved new curricula such as National Education Curriculum in all educational levels which is one of the major steps to educate students about their country and their duties towards it.

The Ministry has also approved teaching Computers in primary schools starting from year 1423/1424H (2003/2004).
