MISSION

Development of educational measurement and evaluation processes.

STRATEGIC GOALS

1- Construction and standardization of tests and scales of achievement, abilities, aptitudes, interests and attitudes for different student groups.
2- Construction and standardization of tests of basic competencies for teachers, student counselors, school principals and educational supervisors.
3- Conduct evaluation studies on curricula, teaching methods and educational programs.
4- Offering technical consultancies in educational and psychological measurement and evaluation for all related sectors.
5- Offering consultancies for relevant users on how to use scales and tests and analyze and interpret their results.
6- Development of student assessment methods in a way that assures achievement of instructional objectives and taking part in the development of rules for student assessment.
7- Organization and implementation of training sessions for the development of measurement and evaluation skills.
8- Cooperation with research and study centers and other educational sectors in planning and implementing projects related to tests, scales and evaluation.
9- Spreading basic literature on measurement and evaluation via educational information media.

TASKS
1st :Consultative tasks
Offering consultancies to the Ministry of Education, educational institutions and research and study centers. These consultancies are either short or long.

2nd: Training tasks
Offering of training as a supportive service for programs and projects the General Directorate for Measurement and Evaluation participates in or offers to other institutions, in order to assure the proper application and success of elements of these programs and projects.

3rd: Developmental tasks
Offering a group of programs and projects which aim at partial or total development of different elements of the educational process.

4th: Evaluative Research and Study
Conducting group of researches and studies in measurement and evaluation with focus on:

a- Comparison of studies
b- Analysis of the results of diagnostic and achievement tests.

MOST IMPORTANT PROJECTS


A- National Tests Project

This project monitors educational achievement of male and female students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in a group of subject matters in critical stages in their study life through the use of standardized tests.
The objectives of the project are:
1- Building scientific frames for competencies and skills the student must master at the end of each major stage.
2- Building measurement tools on a scientific basis and by means of which changes through time in students’ achievement of basic knowledge and skills can be evaluated, and quality in teaching practices can be judged.
3- Identifying standard levels of students’ achievement that educational institutions try to achieve.
4- Linking national standards of basic skills of male and female students in the Kingdom with international standards.

B- Project of Tests of Basic Competencies for Teachers, Educational Supervisors, Student Counselors and School Principals.

The objectives of this project are:
1- Identifying competencies that teachers, educational supervisors, student counselors and school principals must have.
2- Building an objective and standardized tool to measure the degree of availability of competencies that teachers, educational supervisors, student counselors and school principals must have, in order to evaluate their vocational levels.
3- Conducting scientific studies on competency levels of teachers, educational supervisors, student counselors and school principals.

C- Diagnostic Tests Project

The objectives of this project are:
1- Identifying common errors of students.
2- Suggesting methods to handle these errors.
3- Suggesting the teaching plans that prevent students from making these errors.

D- School Readiness Test Project

The objectives of this project are:
1- Identifying basic skills of students before joining school.
2- Making effective the role of counseling in schools.
3- Minimizing rate of drop out.
4- Enabling decision makers to know actual needs of students.
5- Providing precise and objective information about students’ personal traits

E- Vocational Interests and Aptitudes Test Project.

This project aims at identifying students’ abilities, aptitudes and interests in a way that facilitates their vocational and academic guidance by the specialized committees in educational sectors, and helping them in taking decisions about acceptance and selection in study and training programs.

F- Developing Measurement and Evaluation Skills of people working in the field through training programs and guides.
