School healthcare

The School Healthcare department was established in 1374H (1964) to provide medical services for students and teachers and all Ministry of Education staff.

The Ministry started the School Healthcare department with three healthcare units in Makkah, Riyadh and Jeddah that included specialized medical units such as physiotherapy, laboratory, X-ray and pharmacy.

The project of establishing new healthcare units expanded rapidly and there were a total of 157 units in the year 1420H (2000): 42 units in main counties, 114 units in smaller counties and one central unit in the Ministry of Education
