A function was held recently at the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) to honor the 40 students from all over the Kingdom who won the 1429/1428 National Olympiad in Mathematics and Physics Prize. The function was graced by KACST President, Dr. Mohamed bin Ibrahim Al-Sweil and Deputy Minister for Boys Education, Dr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Malees
Speaking on the occasion, the supervisor of the Mathematics and Physics National Center, Mr.Hamoud bin Hamed Al-Harbi, noted that this competition aims at discovering talent among Saudi students, both boys and girls. It also provides talented students with a chance to qualify to compete with similar students worldwide.
Faris bin Nihar Al-Moteri delivered a speech on behalf of the winners where he extended his colleagues' thanks to the Education Minister, KACST's President, and Deputy Minister for Boys Education for their support. He also expressed the winners’ appreciation of the supporting role played by the competition's sponsors, as well as the parents, which led to this success.
Her Highness, Dr. Mashael bint Mohamed bin Saud Al- Saud, who graced the girls' function, stressed on the necessity of the decision makers to support the various sections interested in excellence and grooming talent. Dr. Mashael also noted the importance of coordination and collaboration between different educational and scientific bodies for optimal utilization of available resources, to create a well-qualified generation, both on the scientific and educational levels. Her Highness stated that the introduction of scientific competitions among talented students by the Education Ministry and KACST helps in the early discovery of future geniuses, and is a living proof of the society's keenness to become technologically and scientifically productive rather than remain a consumer-oriented society.
Dr.Mashael extended her congratulations to the winners of the 9th Mathematics and Physics National Olympiad. She indicated that naming the competition 'The National Olympiad' reflects the fact that its objective is to prepare participants for the International Olympiad where hundreds of countries compete. Winners of the Saudi National Olympics will represent the Kingdom next year in Germany and Mexico.
President of KACST, Dr.Mohamed bin Ibrahim Al-Sweil, also stated that changing the competition's name into the new one paves the way to the participation of the Saudi students in the international mathematics and physics Olympiads. He also added that the students will be trained in a summer camp in an attempt to enhance the Kingdom's standing in the competition. The students will also take part in other enriching programs held in collaboration with the King Abdulaziz Institution for the Talented and renowned talented and gifted figures. He also thanked those in charge of the competition in the Education Ministry and KACST.
On his part, Deputy Minister for Boys Education, Dr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Malees, delivered a speech that reflected the joy felt by the members in the educational field regarding such important national achievements. He extended his thanks to the Custodian of the Holy Mosques and to the Crown Prince for the government's efforts in supporting education. He extended his thanks to the President of KACST, stressing the close relationship between the Ministry and KACST, where both sides look forward towards more cooperation and integration. He also thanked the winners' parents, teachers, and workers in the educational field who played a great role in the students' success which reflect their love for their country.
Dr. Al-Malees indicated the importance of honoring and looking after such distinguished and talented groups, by devoting time, effort, and money, and that such efforts are indeed appreciated by the advanced world. Dr. Al-Malees also referred to the important outcomes of the intellectual skills, such as the integrity of thinking and logic, which are among the main causes of success and excellence in the world.
