Minister of Education Launches Google Educational Project: “Towards a Knowledge Society”.

The Ministry of Education, in co-operation with a local software and e-learning company, Semanoor, has recently launched a program titled “Towards a Knowledge Society”.

Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh al Obaid, honorable Minister of Education, inaugurated, Tuesday morning, the Google Educational Program for the Ministry of education, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Girls Education, Prince Dr. Khalid bin Abdullah aal Saud. Also present on the occasion were the Director General of the Jeddah Educational directorate, Mr. Abdulkarim al Heqeel and the Director General of the Ministry’s Computer and Information Center, Dr. Munir al Humaid, and the Manager of the Jeddah Girls Education Computer Center, Mr. Khalid al Beladi, as well as the Manager of Google for the Middle East, Asia and Eastern Europe region, Mr. Mohammed Jawdat, and Mr. Mohammed Sharab, Consultant for Google Saudi Arabia, and the head of the E-Learning company, semanoor, Mr. Emad Fahad al Daghaiter.

Mr. Khalid al Beladi made a presentation before the gathering detailing the initiative launched by the Jeddah Regional Education Department along with Google. The initiative covers one thousand two hundred schools, more than twenty thousand teachers, three hundred students and two hundred thousand parents.

Participants in the Google initiative will be provided, among other things, personal email, access to office applications, program schedules, personal websites and the like, over the world wide web.

After the presentation, the Honourable Minister, Mr. Saleh al Obaid, encouraged all educational deputies and their staff to make full use of the technologies and services provided by the Google initiative and to co-operate with their Computer Centers, and benefit from the experience of the Computer Center in the Jeddah Directorate.
